One Bread, One Body - Reflection for January 18, 2025

COME IN, JESUS

"Why does He eat with such as these?" –Mark 2:16

First of all, Jesus is with us. He is Emmanuel, God-with-us (Mt 1:23; 28:20). At the Doxology of the Mass, the priest prays "through Him, with Him, and in Him." Jesus is with us. We live with Him. Jesus comes to be with sinners, the sick, and the outcast. Although He calls us to work in His service, He primarily comes to be with us, to have fellowship with us, to share His life with us. He knocks at our door (Rv 3:20), for He greatly desires to share table fellowship with us (Lk 22:15).

Jesus came from heaven to earth to be with us and share His life with us, so that we could be in His presence. The Creator of the Universe, the King of Heaven and Earth, delights in you. He wants to spend eternity with you. He is knocking at your door (Rv 3:20). "Think!" (Dt 10:14) God Himself wants to dwell with you! Moreover, you don't have to pass a difficult test, go through years of schooling, know profound religious insights, etc. All you have to do is roll out the welcome mat, open the door to His knocking, and let Jesus in.

Jesus counts us "worthy to be in His presence" (2nd Eucharistic prayer). Accept His offer to share His life with you. All are welcome in God's house. Make Him welcome in yours.

PRAYER: Lord, we give "thanks that You have held us worthy to be in Your presence and minister to You." I welcome You into my home. Thank You for wanting to share Your life with me.
PROMISE: "Let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need." –Heb 4:16
PRAISE: Jesus healed young Larry of asthma.
