One Bread, One Body - Reflection for February 6, 2006

OUR DAILY DESIRE

"Advance, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your majesty." –Psalm 132:8

With awesome grandeur and majesty, Solomon, the priests, and the entire community of Israel brought the ark into the Holy of Holies. At this momentous event, "the cloud filled the temple of the Lord so that the priests could no longer minister" (1 Kgs 8:10-11). However, we experience something much greater each time Jesus' body and blood in Holy Communion enters the temples of our bodies.

The crowds scurried to bring "the sick on bedrolls to the place where they heard He was" (Mk 6:55). They begged Jesus "to let them touch just the tassel of His cloak. All who touched Him got well" (Mk 6:56). However, we do something much more intimate and powerful every time we receive Jesus in Communion. We not only touch His cloak's tassel, but we touch, and in fact, receive, the person of Jesus into our persons. He lives inside of us (Jn 6:56; 17:23). We receive the ultimate intimacy, grace, and healing power.

This book is intended to encourage you to participate in daily Mass and Communion. The teachings are based on the readings for daily Mass. Go, or at least desire to go, to Mass and Communion every day for the rest of your life. Write us and tell us God has given you this grace.

PRAYER: Jesus, may I desire more every day to receive You in Holy Communion. May this become the center of my life.
PROMISE: "The Lord intends to dwell in the dark cloud; I have truly built You a princely house, a dwelling where You may abide forever." –1 Kgs 8:12-13
PRAISE: St. Paul Miki was in such intimate communion with Christ that, as he hung on a cross dying, he spoke: "I hope my blood will fall on my fellow man as a fruitful rain."
